Career Documentation

Your resume is a reflection of yourself. It must be chronologically and professionally correct

Resumes should be:

  • Direct and to the point.
  • Arranged chronologically, beginning with the most recent position, month and year.
  • Specific; provide statistics on volume, number of staff supervised, type of operation, quality rating, awards and scope of your responsibilities and authority.
  • Results-oriented; in what ways is your firm better off today by virtue of your specific contributions?
  • Accompanied by copies of newspaper and/or magazine articles, certificates, diplomas, brochures or other exhibits as appropriate.

References

  • Submit an updated list of your professional references and their current telephone numbers and addresses. Clearly indicate their previous or current relationship to you.
  • Ask your references to forward a letter of recommendation to ESI.

Skillful Interviewing

  • Be adequately prepared. Be prompt.
  • Be motivated and objective.
  • Project a positive image. Eye contact and listening skills are most important
  • Dress for success.
  • Do not negotiate the compensation package during the interview unless initiated by prospective employer.
  • Notify your ESI Account Executive of any changes in your interview schedule.
  • Contact your ESI Account Executive immediately after the interview.

Counter Offers

A counter-offer is designed as an inducement from your current employer for you to stay after you have announced your intention to change employment. Perceiving a lack of long-term loyalty on your part, your employer is simply buying time to replace you.

Statistics show that counter-offers usually do not work and at best are effective only in the short term. Employees who accept them have shown that, as tempting as they may be, acceptance in most cases neither results in poised or professional development, nor enhances the leveraging of one's career toward long-term growth.
